hi
                 --your name, 2003.01.05

You too are getting the sense that the country is in mortal peril. Funny thing is even my most conservative friends/relatives, staunch republicans and businessmen... think Bush is a dangerous crackpot. This constrasts with his 'glowing' public opinion polls. I think there is a tremendous undercurrent of alarm and dissatisfaction that only needs a catalyst to surface. The democrats are either too timid or too controlled to speak up.

damn it, I can't even record what media I've seen in 2003.

The Online World Timeline has a link to yet another "do something cool in x-amount of bytes" contests which I love so much. Ever compile a list of those contests?

Cold back there? It's been bloody warm out on the west coast...mid 60's..
                 --bozo, 2003.01.22

Who is Dylan and why is this person SO funny to me? I went through the entire archive of 'pointless sidebar' and loved it. I guess that is why I like it less when you do a backlog flush, Kirk. You say less - while giving more (if that even makes sense). I like the babble. Life is too little babble at times, and frankly - we need more mindlessness to cope with all the crap! Rock on Dylan - I hope Crooded Bear is happy.

"I can only hope that he mistimes it and gets his butt handed to him on a platter come election time"..

If things go badly in Iraq, there may not be another election... martial law may be declared to squelch any oppostion. It is well documented that they have the contingency plans in place as we speak (well... type) this is Germany in '34 and the Reichstag has burned.

Good perception on the destructive nature of worry.

A recommended read for you... a little book called "Ice" by Tristan Jones. He was a somewhat eccentric English sailor who attempted to take set the record for taking sailing vessel to the farthest north latitude.

Well written.

It has a dissertation on his perceptions of the differences between 'worry' and 'concern' that is enlightening.

Apparantly the sensors on the left wing (the one hit by the insulation) started failing about 10 minutes before the breakup.
NASA says there was nothing the could have done after liftoff. Bozo wonders if they could have parked the shuttle at the space station and sent up a retrieval mission. (embarassing?)

What really irks me about this (and nobody's talking about) is that when NASA/Politicians gets cocky and start flying these Public Relations Missions things are bound to go to hell.

Flying Senators, Teachers, Political Astronauts,Ant Farms etc. is not what it's supposed to be about.

Rather than blaming Allah, I'd say "See what happens when you get overconfident about your technology and arrogant"

Stark photo...

If someone doesn't stop the Bush war machine, there will be plenty of fresh photo opportunities like it...

His comments yesterday were so similar to Hitler's... very scary. Don't know what it will take to get Americans to recognize their peril.
                 --bozo, 2003.02.07

Excellent links on geopolitics today... Scary, we have become the primary bully of the world.

Thank you for this site and greetings from London! Samantha Williams

You have to remember that Bush and his closest supporters believe that there will be a big flash of light in the sky and they will all fly off to heaven, leaving us infidels behind.

For the rest of us, the big flash of light in the sky is simply a thermonuclear device.
                 --bozo, 2003.02.13

I really like the site. I'm a high school junior, and I see quite a few similarities between us, from the fear of death to your lists in the biography section. Keep up the good work, and all that jazz.

There is a Sufi story of a man at a bazaar who saw Death looking for him.
He raced off and caught a train for New Delhi just as it pulled away. Death
saw him as he left and said, 'Funny, I wonder what's he doing here. I have
an appointment with him next Tuesday in Delhi.'

Edward Said the intelectual we have just lost said about death the following :
"In recent years, when I was facing terminal illness - with a tremendous amount of uncertainty- I discovered that I wasn't afraid of death. Not even of the suffering associated of the terminal pahses of the disease. But I was afraid of not being able to recapture and to restate and to reinterpret those aspects of my life that I tought had some value."
