I think (though i have no basis) that there was a recent breakthrough in alcohol flavorings. Like someone in a lab finally figured out how to make ones that don't suck. So everyone started using them.
I have the same theory about chocolate scented body products. Long ago, it seemed impossible to make stuff smell like chocolate. Then a few years ago suddenly there was stuff everywhere that smelled like chocolate and also smelled very good.
Then again, maybe there was just a trend towards sweet food scenting in body products
