Writing code is easy. Learning a new computer language is pretty easy too, and each one you learn makes the next easier. After 10 years or so a typical programmer probably knows a handful of languages well and a dozen or more passably. The hard part is _developing_. It's like the difference between spelling/grammar and writing.
