If CS Lewis were an Intelligent Design person (one wonders!) I suspect he might allow that reality is what our senses were designed to take in. He does seem to be rejecting the idea that our senses are as they are because they are selected by the demands of the reality he's talking about, at least the demands of staying alive and procreating.
