I had no idea that the Nazis sold the confiscated "degenerate" art. You must figure at some point in the bureaucracy of processing all these works, the original Nazi zealot in charge of exterminating degeneracy and purifying the art world was promoted and replaced by a guy who could barely care less about art, but sure thought that revenue would look good to the bosses, and nobody but the last guy would care that the art was out there on the market.
I don't know why but I couldn't Google up much about that comission... maybe an alternate translation issue?
