Actually, what Franklin (?) messed up was the direction of current. He (somewhat arbitrarily) specified current as the migration of charge from positive to negative (positive current). Of course, we now know electrical current is the movement of electrons (confirmed via the Hall Effect), i.e. negative charge. Unfortunately, by the time the truth was known, positive current was the standard way of showing electricity, which is why the symbols for diodes & transistors are different from what they actually do.
