the boy is back in town
How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage? Can a hearse carrying a corpse drive in the carpool lane? If a Deaf person has to go to court, is it still called a Hearing? Why are you IN a movie, but you're ON TV? If corn oil is made from corn, and vegetable oil is made from vegetables, what is baby oil made from? If Wiley E. Coyote had enough money to buy all that Acme crap, why didn't he just buy dinner?

Okay Kirk, no more, I'm done.

Sometimes ideas seemingly obvious in hindsight don't occur to people or have technical constraints, whereas the spacerace became a big political issue. Probably only live people count for carpool purposes so it depends on the lane restrictions and # of live riders. The in/on question may be because ' the movies ' is plural but 'television' is singular. Baby Oil is made of minerals or more rarely vegetable oil. Wile E Coyote likely finds nothing as satisfying as fresh killed road runner.

That picture of a blue line station in Chicago reminds me of this one time I was walking up these stairs to a blue line station from a tunnel, as I was walking over from a red line station. Heading up those stairs, I was disoriented because I almost thought I was walking up to street level. All the blue and the bright light (mind you, the red line stations aren't well lit) somehow deceived me.

The in movies/on TV thing is obvious-- you are in a movie-- which is a particular work, or you can be in a TV show, which likewise is a particular work, but if you're on TV, that's the medium-- likewise you're on the big screen. If you're "in the movies," though, that just suggests you're in the movie business. Also, movies comes from "moving pictures," which pre-dates television, which refers to seeing images over a distance. Moving pictures could just as easily describe television, but the term was taken.
As for Wile. E. Coyote, I found no mention of his accounts or whether or not he bought on credit in the groundbreaking consumer-safety lawsuit, "Coyote v. Acme."
