I think calling it a "Luddite-orientation" is overstating things quite a bit. Both both share roots in getting tasks done as simply and smoothly as possible. For something like an OS, that (for me) means sticking with "The Devil I Know", which hopefully can more or less fade into the background. For webapps and phone UIs and things like that, it means making things clear and consistent and hand in hand with an easy to internalize model
