My father's illness impressed on me from an early age that life was going to be a struggle, and there were a lot of losers.His father, at the time a rising figure in the Conservative party, had an almost deadly stroke and lost the ability to speak for three years when Blair was 11. I really understand the sentiment, I think I felt something similar during my dad's illness and death when I was 14.
